How can I open up a new link within a web page without using frames?

Question by MatildaM: How can I open up a new link within a web page without using frames?
I am designing a webpage and was wondering if there was any way to open up a new link within my page without having it go to a new window or tab, and without using frames. I would be fine with using any kind of code, but would appreciate an example of the code if it is possible.

One approach would be to use ajax (which requires knowledge of javascript).

You can also consider an iframe. I know you don’t want frames but an iframe is a bit more flexible than using frames.

What do you think? Answer below!

    AJAX…..AJAX….AJAX.

(or flex or silverlight, but I doubt those are options here).

If you would consider the iframe, with a little java script, you could do it pretty easily. The iframe would not be visible by setting the width and height to = 1.

I attempted to put it inside this textarea, but the browser replaced much of the code with ‘…’

If interested, go to my profile and send me an email address where I can send the code to.
